Why do people believe in intellect over God?

Is it a want to be in control and with it being a God it takes power out of your hands. Well the scientific proof of a none existent God blah blah blah is all people have and ride on. What i tell most people is if there is no God then when we die so what but if there is well that's a different story i rather believe in a none existent God and be on the safe side but believe me my intellect goes way beyond what is written in a book that my teacher put in my hand and told me that if science cant prove it that its not real
