How do i text the guy i like?

obviously at school we're on christmas break. there's this guy i like and he told me a few times when there was still school that i should text him over break :) we've been out a week and I've texed him three times. he seems to like texting me. he sends long detailed msgs, not like "ya", "ok","oh"... the only problem is that im always the first one to text him. he never texts me first.
